Aston Rupee
Dog · Australia · Career: 42 starts: 23 wins · Prize money: Over $600,000
Aston Rupee, a son of American sire KC And All out of Melbourne Cup finalist Aston Miley (a litter sister to 2017 Melbourne Cup winner Aston Dee Bee), was trained by Glenn Rounds and raced by South Australian breeder Ray Borda. He announced himself as something extraordinary in September 2021 when he smashed Sandown's revered 515-metre track record, clocking 28.79 — more than two lengths inside Hard Style Rico's 28.90 from the 2020 Melbourne Cup final. He was the only greyhound to break 29 seconds anywhere in Australia that year.
He went on to do it at Sandown three more times (28.89, 28.94, 28.95) — no other greyhound has broken 29 at the track more than once. At Group 1 level he won the 2021 Topgun and 2022 Temlee at The Meadows, becoming the first sprinter to complete the venue's invitational double, and his 29.38 in the 2022 Australian Cup Consolation missed Allen Deed's long-standing Meadows record by just 0.01 seconds. He was named Victorian Greyhound of the Year and Victorian Sprinter of the Year for 2021/22.

Legacy
Aston Rupee was retired to stud in March 2022 while still at the peak of his powers, with owner Ray Borda citing the same 'retire on top' philosophy as Ash Barty. His record at Sandown — an average winning time of 29.08 across his ten wins there — remains one of the great venue records in Australian racing. At stud he made an immediate impact, siring Group 1 Ipswich Cup winner Autumn Storm and Group 1 Hobart Thousand winner Slick Badger, and his 28.79 stood as Sandown's benchmark until the venue's next generational sprinter arrived.
